Out-of-support Windows Server
Domain Controller Upgrades & Consolidation in UAE & KSA
Old domain controllers put your whole network at risk. M365 Enterprise Hub upgrades domain controllers to Windows Server 2025 or 2022, raises forest and domain functional levels and consolidates sprawling domains for organizations across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with no user downtime.

What Are Domain Controller Upgrade & Consolidation Services?
A domain controller upgrade replaces old DCs with new ones running a supported Windows Server version, transfers FSMO roles, migrates SYSVOL from FRS to DFSR and raises functional levels. Consolidation reduces the number of domains, sites and DCs to simplify management and shrink the attack surface.
It is often the first step in Active Directory hardening and Active Directory migration and consolidation projects.
DC Upgrade Scenarios
We plan around your sites, applications and change windows.
Domain Controller Refresh
Replace Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016 or 2019 DCs with Windows Server 2025 or 2022.
Functional Level Raise
Move forest and domain functional levels up to unlock modern security features.
Domain & Site Consolidation
Merge domains, retire branch DCs and simplify AD sites after growth or acquisitions.

Why Upgrade Your Domain Controllers?
Domain controllers hold the keys to every account in your organization. Running them on out-of-support Windows Server versions, or with SYSVOL still on FRS, leaves known vulnerabilities open and blocks newer Kerberos and authentication protections.
A modern, consolidated set of DCs is easier to secure, back up and monitor, and it prepares you for hybrid identity with Microsoft Entra ID.
Our Domain Controller Services
Careful, staged upgrades with full rollback planning.
Replication, DNS, FSMO, SYSVOL and time sync validated before any change.
Windows Server 2025 or 2022 DCs, Server Core where possible, hardened to Microsoft baselines.
Seamless transfer of roles, DNS and DHCP with zero user impact.
Migration of legacy FRS replication required for modern Windows Server.
Forest and domain functional level raises after compatibility checks.
Object, SID history and application migration into a single, clean domain.
Common Domain Controller Issues We Fix
Problems that block upgrades or put AD at risk:
Windows Server 2012 R2 or older still holding FSMO roles.
Lingering objects and broken replication between sites.
FRS replication that prevents adding new DCs.
Multiple domains and forests left over from acquisitions.
Our Upgrade Process
- 01Health Check
Find and fix replication, DNS and SYSVOL issues.
- 02Plan
Sequence DC replacement, roles and app dependencies.
- 03Deploy
Promote new DCs and transfer FSMO and DNS roles.
- 04Retire
Demote and clean up old DCs and metadata.
- 05Raise & Document
Raise functional levels and hand over documentation.
Legacy DCs vs Upgraded DCs
| Area | Legacy Domain Controllers | Upgraded by M365 Enterprise Hub |

| Replication | FRS, frequent errors | DFSR, healthy and monitored |
| Security | Old functional levels | Modern Kerberos and protections |
| Structure | Multiple domains and sites | Consolidated and simplified |

Domain Controller Upgrade FAQs
Microsoft supports in-place upgrades, but we recommend deploying new domain controllers and retiring old ones. It is cleaner, lower risk and avoids carrying old configuration forward.
No. With multiple domain controllers, users authenticate against the remaining DCs while each one is replaced. Roles and DNS are moved during planned windows.
Windows Server 2025 introduced a new domain and forest functional level. Raising it requires all domain controllers to run Windows Server 2025, so we check readiness first.
Yes. FRS is deprecated and newer Windows Server versions cannot be added as domain controllers while SYSVOL uses FRS. We migrate it safely before upgrading.
A small environment can be upgraded in one to two weeks. Multi-site upgrades or domain consolidation projects usually take four to ten weeks.
Yes. We consolidate domains and forests with SID history and application remediation. See our Active Directory migration service.
