Standing Domain Admin rights
Active Directory Design & Hardening in UAE & KSA
Active Directory is the number one target in ransomware attacks. M365 Enterprise Hub designs clean AD forests and hardens existing ones for organizations across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, removing the excessive privileges, legacy protocols and misconfigurations attackers use to take over a domain.

What Is Active Directory Design & Hardening?
Active Directory design defines your forest, domain, OU, site and delegation structure. Active Directory hardening secures it by applying the Microsoft tiered administration model, removing standing admin rights, enforcing strong authentication and disabling insecure protocols such as NTLMv1 and SMBv1.
It complements our broader Active Directory services and protects the identity layer that hybrid identity and Microsoft Entra ID depend on.
AD Security Engagement Models
Start with an assessment, then fix what matters most.
AD Security Assessment
A full review using PingCastle, Purple Knight and Microsoft tooling, with a risk-ranked findings report and remediation plan.
AD Hardening Remediation
Hands-on fixes: tiering, privileged group clean-up, Kerberos and NTLM hardening, LAPS and audit policy.
New AD Design
A clean forest and OU design for new organizations, mergers or rebuilds after a security incident.

Why Active Directory Hardening Matters
Most AD environments have grown for 10 to 20 years without a security redesign. Stale admin accounts, unconstrained delegation and weak service account passwords let an attacker move from one compromised laptop to Domain Admin in hours.
Hardening shrinks that attack surface, supports UAE IA, Dubai ISR and Saudi NCA ECC identity controls, and lowers cyber insurance risk. Pair it with privileged access management for full control of admin access.
Our Active Directory Hardening Services
Practical, prioritized fixes that do not break your applications.
Separate Tier 0, 1 and 2 admin accounts and devices so domain controllers are never exposed to workstation threats.
Remove unnecessary members from Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins and other privileged groups, with just-in-time alternatives.
Retire NTLMv1, RC4 and unconstrained delegation, enforce AES and protect against Kerberoasting.
Unique, rotating local admin passwords on every server and workstation.
A clean OU structure with least-privilege delegation and documented ownership.
Advanced audit policy, Defender for Identity and alerts on risky changes to privileged objects.
Common Active Directory Risks We Find
Findings we see in almost every AD security assessment:
Dozens of accounts, including service accounts, with full control of the domain.
NTLMv1, SMBv1 and RC4 left on for old applications nobody uses.
Disabled users, old computers and orphaned admin accounts never cleaned up.
Passwords that never expire and are vulnerable to Kerberoasting.
Our Hardening Process
- 01Assess
Scan AD and score risks against Microsoft best practice.
- 02Prioritize
Agree a remediation plan ranked by risk and business impact.
- 03Remediate
Apply fixes in controlled change windows with rollback plans.
- 04Validate
Re-scan, test applications and confirm the risk score improved.
- 05Monitor
Continuous alerting and quarterly AD security reviews.
Default AD vs Hardened AD
| Area | Default / Legacy AD | Hardened by M365 Enterprise Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Admin Access | Tiered, just-in-time privileged access | |
| Authentication | NTLMv1 and RC4 allowed | Kerberos AES, NTLM restricted |
| Local Admins | Same password on every machine | Windows LAPS rotating passwords |
| Visibility | No alerts on privileged changes | Defender for Identity monitoring |

Why Choose M365 Enterprise Hub for AD Hardening?
We have assessed and hardened Active Directory for banks, healthcare providers, schools and government-linked entities in the GCC, and we fix findings without disrupting line-of-business applications.
Engineers focused on AD, Entra ID and privileged access.
Before-and-after risk scores mapped to UAE and KSA controls.
Staged changes, application testing and rollback plans.

Active Directory Hardening FAQs
Active Directory hardening is the process of reducing the attack surface of your domain by removing excessive privileges, disabling insecure protocols, enforcing strong authentication, separating admin tiers and monitoring privileged changes.
A typical assessment takes one to two weeks, including data collection, analysis and a findings workshop. Remediation usually runs four to ten weeks depending on the number of findings.
Not when done correctly. We test changes such as NTLM restrictions in audit mode first, identify dependent applications and roll out in stages with a rollback plan.
It separates administrative accounts into tiers: Tier 0 for domain controllers and identity systems, Tier 1 for servers and Tier 2 for workstations. Admins never use high-tier credentials on lower-tier devices, which blocks credential theft paths.
Yes. In hybrid environments, on-premises AD is the source of identity for Entra ID, so a compromised AD can lead to a compromised Microsoft 365 tenant. See our hybrid identity setup service.
Yes. Privileged access control, authentication hardening and audit logging map directly to identity and access controls in Saudi NCA ECC and the UAE Information Assurance standard.
